Big devastation knocks in Uttarakhand! Cracks in house, road and fields due to landslide in Joshimath, report sought from Chamoli DM

Once again in Uttarakhand, people are in panic due to the knock of major destruction. Due to the landslide happening in Joshimath of Chamoli district, the cracks in the houses of the people are increasing in the past days. Apart from houses in the area of Joshimath city, cracks have appeared on the road. There are incidents of streams of water coming out from the ground. After the cracks in the houses and fields, now the poles of the high tension line have also become skewed. This has created a danger to the surrounding houses. Along with this, Malte and apple trees planted in the fields have started falling due to the depth of the cracks. After these incidents, the people of the entire Joshimath area are living in fear. The people living in the houses which have developed cracks are forced to leave their homes and spend the nights under the open sky in the bitter cold. In view of increasing landslides in Joshimath, 21 families have been shifted to a safer place. 16 families have been shifted to municipality Joshimath and one family to Joshimath development block and 4 families to primary school Marwari.

Due to continuous increase in landslides in Joshimath area, people have lost their sleep. Panic has increased among the people due to water coming out in many places. The affected families have been shifted to safer places by the administration. An atmosphere of fear has been created among the people due to the release of mud water around the Marwari JP area. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has sought a report from Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana on the matter and has said to take steps for improvement when the report comes. On the other hand, the administration team is surveying the areas affected by landslides. The families of the victims are being taken to a safer place. According to local media, after cracks appeared in the houses and fields, the poles of the electric high tension line have also become crooked. This has created a danger to the surrounding houses. Along with this, Malte and apple trees planted in the fields have started falling due to the depth of the cracks.

The fastest landslide is happening in Manohar Bagh ward of Joshimath city. There have been cracks in many houses and gaushalas here. Ward resident Madan Kaparwan told that he has shifted the cow to his house due to a crack in his cow shed. There is a high tension line near his house. The pillars of the high tension line have become skewed due to land subsidence. This has created a danger to the houses around the pillar. On the other hand, local resident Bhagwati Prasad Kaparwan says that due to continuous crack in his field, the malt and apple trees planted in the fields have also started falling.

JE DS Panwar of Energy Corporation said that information has been received from Manohar Bagh ward that electric poles have started hanging there due to land subsidence. After inspection, action will be taken to shift the poles which are in danger.

Number of affected houses reached 586

According to the report, the team formed by the administration to survey the houses affected by landslides in the city area has so far completed the survey of 90 houses. Tehsildar Ravi Shah told that two teams have been formed to speed up the survey so that the survey work can be completed soon. On the other hand, District Disaster Management Officer Nand Kishore Joshi told that the survey work of the affected houses in Joshimath has to be completed by January 20. The team has been asked to expedite the survey work. According to the data received from the municipality, till Monday, the number of houses affected by landslide has increased to 586.

Threat of movement regarding rehabilitation

An organization of Joshimath threatened to hit the streets if the Uttarakhand government does not immediately start the process of rehabilitating the people of this sinking city. Atul Sati, convenor of the Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, said that a meeting has been called on Wednesday at the border town of Joshimath in Chamoli district to chalk out a strategy for the movement. Chairman of Joshimath Municipality, Shailendra Panwar said that the number of houses which have developed cracks has crossed 600. He said that in a large part of Singadhar ward, cracks have appeared in the houses since Monday. Sati had traveled to Dehradun on Monday to draw the attention of the administration towards the problem and demanded immediate rehabilitation of the residents of Joshimath. He said that the base of Joshmath is sinking and people’s lives are in danger. Sati said on Monday, we have been demanding our immediate rehabilitation for a year but no one is listening to us.

He said that Joshimath is the last border town of strategic, religious and tourism importance which falls in seismic zone five. He warned that if an earthquake occurs, there will be huge loss to life and property. A team of experts also surveyed the town and found that it is slowly sinking.
