For the first time in the country, two couples are justices in the Rajasthan High Court

This is the first time in the history of the country, when two couples are serving as judges in the High Court of a state. Jodhpur’s Dr. Nupur Bhati was sworn in as High Court judge on Monday. Her husband Justice Pushpendra Bhati is also a judge in the Rajasthan High Court. Justice Mahendra Goel and his wife Justice Shubha Mehta are already posted in the High Court.
After the appointment of 9 judges by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, the oath was administered in the Jodhpur High Court on Monday. Earlier, by issuing notification on Friday, orders were issued to appoint 3 judges from advocate quota and 6 judges from judicial officer quota.
With this, out of 50 posts in the High Court, 35 judges have been appointed. But, still the posts of 15 judges are vacant. Chief Justice Pankaj Mitthal administered the oath to all the newly appointed judges of Rajasthan High Court at Jodhpur.
Appointment from 3 lawyers and 6 judicial officers quota
Ganesh Ram Meena, Anil Kumar Upman from Jaipur and Dr. Nupur Bhati from Jodhpur have been appointed from advocate quota, while Rajendra Prakash Soni, Ashok Kumar Jain, Yogendra Kumar Purohit, Bhuvan Goyal, Praveer Bhatnagar and Ashutosh Kumar have been appointed from judicial officer quota. Appointment is done.
3 women judges in high court
Out of 35, there are now 3 women judges in the Rajasthan High Court. After the appointment of Nupur Bhati as a judge from advocate quota, now the number of women judges has gone up to three. Now Shubha Mehta, Rekha Borana and Nupur Bhati are serving as women judges.
A judge has advocated in MLA horse-trading case
Ganesh Ram Meena is the Additional Advocate General (AAG) of the state government in the High Court, out of the three judges who have been appointed from the advocate quota. In 2020, Anil Kumar Upman had advocated on behalf of SOG as Special Public Prosecutor in the case related to horse-trading. Earlier in 2021, Farzand Ali and Rekha Borana, who became High Court judges from advocate quota, have also been AAGs. Ali left the post before the appointment and Borana after the appointment. Explain that the appointment of AAG is done by the Law and Legal Affairs Department of the state government.
