The cruise was stopped due to less water in the Ganga in Chhapra, Bihar, now reached Patna

Ganga Vilas Cruise was stopped at Chhapra in Bihar due to less water in river Ganges. The cruise had to be stopped on the third day of its 51-day journey. Officials have given this information on Monday. PM Modi flagged it off from Varanasi only last week. The cruise was to take tourists to the archaeological site of Chirand, but due to low water in the Ganges, it was stopped before reaching the coast.
Chirand is the most important archaeological site of the district located near Doriganj market of Saran district and 11 km south-east of Chhapra. Stupanuma places built on the banks of the Ghaghra river are seen to be associated with Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim influences. Officials said it was difficult to bring the cruise ashore due to the shallow water at the coast.
Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India Sanjay Bandopadhyay said that Ganga Vilas Cruise has reached Patna as per schedule. There is no truth in the news of the ship getting stuck in Chhapra, Bihar. The vessel will continue its onward voyage as per schedule.
