UN designates Hafiz Saeed’s relative Abdul Rehman Makki as global terrorist

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday listed Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist. India had last year sought to declare the leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) as a global terrorist, but China had blocked it. In June 2022, India joined the United Nations Sanctions Committee, also known as the UNSC 1267 Committee. Under this, the proposal to list Pak terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki was criticized on international forums for stopping China.

“On 16 January 2023, the Security Council Committee on ISIL (Da’esh), Al-Qaeda, and Related Individuals, Groups, Undertakings and Entities, following resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) Subject to the property freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set forth and adopted in paragraph 1 of Security Council Resolution 2610 (2021), the United Nations said in a statement that its (Da’esh) and al-Qaeda Apart from the list of banned under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

Already banned in India-America
Let us inform that India and America have already declared Abdul Rehman Makki as a terrorist under the laws of their country. Makki has been involved in terrorist activities in India, including raising funds for terrorist attacks, recruiting and radicalizing youths to violence, and planning attacks, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. Abdul Rehman Makki is the brother-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

China became an obstacle
In fact, on 16 June 2022, China interrupted the joint proposal of the US and India to include Pakistani terrorist Makki in the UN Security Council’s banned list at the last moment. The US and India had submitted a joint resolution to designate Makki a global terrorist under the Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the Security Council. On June 16, except China, all the members supported the addition of Makki’s name to the terrorist list.

India had circulated the proposal to keep Makki in the terrorist list under UN Security Council resolution 1267 among all the members.
