Madhya Pradesh: Laborer found British period silver coins while digging pillar, went home and got scared and handed them over to police

In Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh, a laborer found British-era silver coins during excavation. First the laborer took these coins to his home. But when the fear of being caught started troubling him, he reached the police with the coins. These coins are currently kept in Kotwali, the district administration has been informed for further action.

Let us tell you that a laborer has found hundreds of British-era silver coins while digging pits for erecting house columns in Damoh Kotwali police station area. Kotwali TI Vijay Rajput told that Govind Prasad Ahirwar (26), a laborer resident of Badapura, told that he was digging a pit to erect a column for the construction of the house of landlord Meenakshi Upadhyay in Asati ward. During this, he first got some coins. When he dug more, a large number of ancient coins were found. At first, Halle went home with the coins and kept them without informing anyone, but he felt scared so he reached the police station and handed over all the coins to TI.

240 coins with police

TI Vijay Rajput said that 240 coins of the British era have been handed over. He says that he found coins in a pot while digging a pit for the column. Police is taking action as per rules after spot inspection in this matter. On the other hand, landlord Meenakshi Upadhyay says that it was not known when the coins were found and when the laborer went away with the coins. He did not come to work on Wednesday. Information was received through social media that silver coins were found during the excavation in his house.

Dr. Surendra Chaurasia, the introducer of Rani Damayanti Museum, says that the coins he has seen are silver coins and are of British era. These coins are currently kept in Kotwali, further action has to be taken by the district administration. If the collector wishes, these coins can also be kept in the museum.
