Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti suspends its agitation

The ‘Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti’ on Thursday suspended its 107-day-old agitation following a written assurance from the Chamoli district administration. Sangharsh Samiti’s convenor Atul Sati said that written assurance of action has been given by the district administration on the eleven-point demands given by the Sangharsh Samiti to the Chief Minister through Joshimath’s Deputy Collector.

He said that after this the committee has postponed its agitation for the next twenty days. Sati said that on the 11th of next month, the struggle committee will review the action of the administration, after which further strategy will be decided.

In his letter, the Sub-Divisional Officer, citing the talks held with the Chief Minister, has informed that the administration is moving forward to resolve the eleven-point demands of the Sangharsh Samiti.

Declaring the entire Joshimath as a disaster affected, in the demands placed before the Chief Minister by the committee on April 8, compensation for the loss caused to the affected sections such as businessmen, daily wage laborers, people dependent on tourism and farmers, the country’s top eight institutions in the context of Joshimath landslide Making the report of the study made public, removing home-stays from the commercial category in the compensation policy announced by the government, running alternative arrangements for at least a year until permanent rehabilitation is arranged for the homeless affected and Tapovan Vishnugad Hydropower Implementation of the 2010 agreement with the NTPC company, the construction agency of the project, etc.

Apart from this, there is also a demand to form a committee to monitor the work of stabilization and new construction of Joshimath and to include Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti and to simplify the process of compensation for the buildings given by the government.

The committee had warned the state government that if action was not taken towards the resolution of their demands, there would be a chakkajam in Joshimath during the Badrinath Yatra. Joshimath is called the gateway of Badrinath Yatra. Badrinath Yatra is starting on 27th April.
