America will deploy submarines equipped with nuclear weapons in South Korea, now war with Kim Jong Un will not be avoided?

US President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol have pledged to further strengthen resistance against North Korea. For this, the US will send nuclear-armed submarines and other military assets to South Korea. In a joint press conference after their meeting in Washington, Biden and Yun told about the new agreement between the two countries which is being called ‘Washington Declaration’.

Yoon is the second leader after French President Emmanuel Macron to host an official state visit at the White House since Biden is sworn in in 2021. The Biden administration said that Washington is giving priority to its key ally in the Indo-Pacific region. Yoon said the new deterrence agreement reflects the “expansion and strengthening” of the bilateral strategy. This agreement between the US and South Korea has come at a time when North Korea has increased the pace of testing its weapons.

Preparing to respond to North Korea
Yoon said, “President Biden has again shown his unwavering commitment to extended resistance to the Republic of Korea.” He said the two countries have “agreed to respond decisively, using the full might of the coalition, including US nuclear weapons, in the event of a nuclear attack by North Korea”. Yoon said the countries would also set up a “nuclear consultative group” to share strategy and information related to North Korean threats.

for the first time since the 1980s
The group will discuss ways to plan and execute joint operations. Biden said the agreement would enhance cooperation in the event of an attack from North Korea. Nuclear-armed submarines have not been deployed to the Korean Peninsula since the early 1980s. Due to this, tension may increase further in the coming days. This is the first time Yoon and Biden are meeting since the South Korean president arrived in Washington on Monday on a six-day state visit.
