Long live the Supreme Court! Justice Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta HC came out of the chamber at night saying

In an unprecedented hearing, the Supreme Court granted a permanent stay on the Calcutta High Court’s decision. In fact, Calcutta HC judge Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had asked the Secretary General of SC to present the documents. The Supreme Court called it ‘judicial indiscipline’ and stayed Justice Gangopadhyay’s order. After this, Justice Gangopadhyay, sitting in his chamber, uttered, ‘Supreme Court Jug Jug Jio.’ Justice Gangopadhyay was sitting in his chamber waiting for the files to come from SC. The SC had earlier asked the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court to hand over the West Bengal school recruitment scam case to another judge in place of Justice Gangopadhyay. Justice Gangopadhyay had given an interview to a news channel regarding the matter. After this, Justice Gangopadhyay asked the Secretary General of SC for the transcript of that interview and the rest of the report.

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay was waiting sitting in the chamber

The Supreme Court on Friday directed to transfer the trial of the West Bengal school recruitment scam case to another judge. The petition was filed by Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee. The SC took this decision on the report of the Registrar of the Calcutta High Court. The bench had said that no judge has the right to give interviews about pending matters. On this decision of SC, Justice Gangopadhyay issued an order on Friday afternoon. He directed that the report of his interview in a news channel along with the official translation and the affidavit of the Registrar General of the Calcutta High Court be placed before him in original by Friday midnight. He said that he would wait in his chamber till 12.15 pm.

Took cognizance of Calcutta HC order from CJI DY Chandrachud. Immediately a SC bench was constituted to examine the validity of that order. Hearing started in the Supreme Court at 8.10 pm. A bench of Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Hima Kohli put a permanent stay on the order of the HC judge. The top court said the order was ‘not proper’. On SC’s final order, Justice Gangopadhyay said that everyone has to follow the directions of the Supreme Court and he will do the same as part of the judiciary.

‘I’m not a running man’
Insisting that he would not resign, Justice Gangopadhyay said, “I am not an escapee.” After the final order of the Supreme Court, Justice Gangopadhyay left his chamber at around 9.40 pm. He told the media that people waiting for jobs might have to wait for a lifetime. When he was described as a “hero of job-seekers”, the judge said that the “hero died” on Friday itself.
