Tamil Nadu: Deputy Inspector General shoots himself, second case of police officer’s suicide in the state

A senior officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General committed suicide in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Deputy Inspector General C Vijayakumar committed suicide by shooting himself with his official pistol at his residence, a senior police officer said.

The 2009 batch IPS officer had taken over as sub-inspector in January this year. Prior to this, he was working as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Annanagar, Chennai. He has earlier served as Superintendent of Police in Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts.

This is the second such case in Tamil Nadu where a senior police officer has committed suicide. Prior to that, in 2015, Tiruchengode Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishnupriya had committed suicide. His body was found hanging at his residence in Namakkal district.

NCB nabs kingpin of major drug racket in Mumbai
The kingpin of a major drug syndicate busted with the seizure of mephedrone worth Rs 50 crore in south Mumbai in June this year has been arrested from Ahmednagar district in an operation carried out by the Narcotics Control Bureau. An official gave this information on Friday.

Two more accused arrested in Jharkhand illegal mining case
