Destruction due to rain from mountain to plain, see the devastation of ‘Jalasur’

Due to incessant rains in the national capital Delhi, the water level of Yamuna river has reached near the warning level. Due to waterlogging in many areas of Delhi, traffic is affected at more than 50 places. So there, floods and rains have wreaked havoc in Himachal. At least three bridges have been broken so far. Torrential rains continue in many parts of North India. 18 people died due to landslides and heavy rains in many places including the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Many rivers in the northern region of the country, including the Yamuna in Delhi, are in spate, due to which the threat of flood is looming large over Delhi. Due to continuous rains for two days, flood-like conditions have been created in many cities. Roads and residential areas in many cities and towns were knee-deep in water and civic bodies were paralyzed due to record rains.

Red alert for rain in many states
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding heavy rains in many states of the country including Delhi. Charan Singh, head of the Regional Meteorological Center Delhi, said that there is a possibility of heavy rains in Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the next 2 days. Along with this, an alert has been issued for heavy rains in the next two days in Punjab, Haryana, UP and East Rajasthan. Alert has been issued for Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Orange alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana, UP and East Rajasthan. We have issued a yellow alert for the next 24 hours in Delhi. Heavy rains lashed Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and various parts of north-west India this week, leading to water-logging and snarling of traffic in many areas. There was a sudden flood and landslide in Gramphu village and Chhota Dharra in the early hours of Sunday.

Weather forecast for the next 24 hours
During the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains may occur over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Konkan and Goa. Light to moderate rain with isolated heavy falls very likely over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Light to moderate rains are possible over Northeast India, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Ladakh, Interior Maharashtra, parts of Telangana and Lakshadweep. Light rain is possible over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Rain record broken
Heavy rain warnings have been issued in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while authorities in the national capital Delhi have warned about the rising water level of the Yamuna. Since 1982, the national capital Delhi recorded the highest rainfall in a single day in July. Schools closed in Delhi-NCR
Schools will remain closed in Ghaziabad for two days due to rain and then till July 17 due to ‘Kawad Yatra’. Heavy rains led to severe water-logging and traffic jams in many parts of Gurugram. The administration advised corporate houses to work from home on Monday and declared a holiday for schools. In Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that all schools will remain closed on Monday in view of incessant rains in the national capital. Waterlogging in the national capital led to traffic snarls and people had to wade through waterlogged roads.

Record of 50 years broken in Himachal Pradesh
Solan received 135 mm of rain on Sunday, breaking the 50-year-old record of 105 mm in a single day in 1971, while Una received the highest rainfall since 1993, according to data released by the Met office, Shimla. According to officials, schools in Delhi and its adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) cities of Gurugram and Noida will remain closed on Monday due to normal life coming to a standstill.

Three members of a family were killed in a house collapse due to a landslide in Kotgarh area of Shimla district, while one death each was reported from Kullu and Chamba districts. According to the Himachal Pradesh Emergency Operation Centre, fourteen major landslides and 13 incidents of flash floods have been reported in the last 36 hours, while over 700 roads have been closed.

Many people were trapped in the hilly states due to flash floods. Around 200 people were stranded at Chandratal in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti and a portion of the Chandigarh-Manali highway was washed away due to rising water level in the Beas river. Landslides and landslides caused by flash floods have made it difficult to reach villages in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand by road. Devastation due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand
Three pilgrims drowned in the Ganges after a jeep fell into a river due to a landslide near Gular on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand. Officials of the State Disaster Response Force and the police said that there were 11 people in the jeep. He told that five people have been rescued, while the search for three others is on and rescuers have recovered three bodies. A couple died and their granddaughter was injured after two houses collapsed in Kashipur area.
Red alert in jammu and Kashmir
In Jammu and Kashmir, two people were killed when a passenger bus was hit by a landslide in Doda district. The bodies of two soldiers who were swept away in a sudden flood while crossing the Dogra Nala in Poonch district of the Union Territory have been recovered. Heavy rains brought some respite in Srinagar and the Amarnath Yatra resumed from Panjtarni and Sheshnag base camps on Sunday after being suspended for three days. There are reports of snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir as well as from Ladakh, where a ‘red alert’ has been issued for heavy rains. With the water level crossing the danger mark in the rivers, a ‘red alert’ has been issued for Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir as well as for the lower catchment areas.
