3854 women and 1134 girls went missing in Uttarakhand; Revealed in RTI, most recovered
There are reports of crimes against women in different states of the country. Similarly, a sensational revelation has come to light amid incidents of women going missing in Uttarakhand for a long time. According to the information provided by the police headquarters to the state’s well-known Right to Information activist (RTI activist) Nadeem Uddin, resident of Kashipur, in just 29 months between January 2021 and May 2023, 3854 women and 1134 girls went missing. The disappearances of missing women and girls have been registered with the police department. In these cases, due to the activeness of police and local people, 2961 women and 1042 girls have been recovered.
According to the information provided by the Police Headquarters to RTI activist Nadeem Uddin, a total of 3854 women have been registered missing from January 2021 to May 2023 in 13 districts of the state and under the Railway Protection Police (GRP). These include 1494 women in 2021, 1632 in 2022 and 728 women in 2023 till May. A total of 1132 girls have been reported missing during the same period. Which includes 404 girls in 2021, 425 in 2022 and 305 girls in 2023 till May.
According to the data of recovery of missing women provided to the RTI activist, a total of 2961 women have been recovered from January 2021 to May 2023. This includes 1271 women in 2021, 1281 in 2022 and 409 women in 2023 till May. Whereas during this period, a total of 1042 missing girls have been recovered, which includes 393 girls in 2021, 403 in 2022 and 246 girls in 2023 till May.
According to the district-wise details of missing women, 168 women have gone missing in Nainital district in 2021, 165 in 2022 and 53 in 2023 till May. 343, 415, 183 respectively in Udham Singh Nagar district, 14, 18, 7 in Pithoragarh district, 25, 44, 23 in Almora district, 59, 49, 35 in Tehri district, 34, 26, 12 in Bageshwar district, Pauri district. 43, 58, 19 in Uttarkashi district, 34, 23, 15 in Uttarkashi district, 364 in Dehradun district in the year 2021, 430 in the year 2022 and 163 women in the year 2023, 339, 314 and 169 respectively in Hardwar district, 31 in Chamoli. , 26 and 14, 23, 48 and 25 in Champawat district, 14, 15 and 10 in Rudraprayag district and in the railway area (under G.R.P.), three missing in the year 2021, one in 2022 and zero till May 2023.
