At least 8 journalists killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza: Press Office
At least eight journalists were killed and two others went missing in Israeli air strikes on Gaza, the Palestinian enclave’s press office said on Wednesday, which began after Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on Saturday.
The office said in a statement that the journalists killed included Saeed al-Tawil, Muhammad Subh, Hisham En-Nawasihe, Ibrahim Lafi, Muhammad Sargun, Muhammad es-Salihi, Essaad Shemlah and Selama Maim, and two other journalists, Nidal al-Wahidi. . There was no trace of Hesem Abdulwahid.
Meanwhile, the homes of three journalists were completely destroyed and at least 40 media outlets were said to have been targeted by air strikes.
The situation in the Gaza Strip deteriorated following a multilateral attack by the Palestinian group Hamas. Israel retaliated with airstrikes and completely blockaded the enclave. It also cut off water and electricity supplies to Gaza, inevitably worsening an already dire humanitarian situation.
At least 2,100 people have been killed in the violence – 900 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis.
The Gaza Strip, home to about 2.2 million people, has suffered an Israeli siege since 2007.
