Asian Para Games 2023: Sumit Antil won by breaking his world record, Ankur became the first Indian to win double gold

India has come close to its best performance in the Para Asian Games. Five years ago in Jakarta he had won 70 medals including 16 gold. The Indian team has won 64 medals including 15 gold, 20 silver and 29 bronze medals on the third day of these games. On Wednesday, India won a total of 34 medals including six gold. Sumit Antil won gold in javelin throw in F-64 category and Sundar Singh Gurjar won gold in F-46 category with a world record.

Sumit threw the javelin 73.29 metres, breaking his own record of 70.83 metres, set at the Paris World Championships this year. Whereas Sundar Singh threw the javelin 68.60 meters. Ankur Dhama of UP won the gold medal in 1500 meters after 5000 meters for visually impaired (T-11). Ankur became the first Indian player to win two gold medals in one Para Asian Games.

India won all three medals in Sundar’s category
Sumit had won gold in javelin throw at the Tokyo Paralympics with a throw of 68.55 metres, while Sundar Singh was successful in winning the bronze medal in Tokyo. Sundar Singh was a contender for gold in the Rio Paralympics, but he did not arrive at the time of the event. He had leveled allegations against Devendra Jhajharia, who had won two gold and one silver in the Paralympics, on which there was a lot of controversy. However, Sundar later claimed to have resolved the disputes with Devendra. Now he has been successful in winning the first gold of Para Asiad. In this category, Rinku Hooda (67.08) won silver and Ajit Singh (63.52) won bronze. In Sumit’s category, Pushpendra Singh won bronze with 62.06 metres.

Haney won gold with Games record
Ankur Dhama won the gold with a timing of 4.27.70 minutes. Rakshita Raju (5.21.45 minutes), who won gold at the 2018 Jakarta Para Asiad, won the women’s visually impaired 1500m race, while Lalita (5.48.85 minutes) won the silver. Haney won gold in the F-37 category with a Games record javelin throw of 55.97 metres. Nimisha jumped 5.15 meters in long jump. MS Sharath was not given gold even after winning 5000 meters on Tuesday, because only two racers took part in this event, but today he won silver in 1500 meters, while Balwant Singh Rawat stood third in the same race. India won all the golds in athletics on Wednesday.
