After the marriage in Haldwani of Nainital district, the groom and his family had to go to jail. Police have arrested 6 people including the groom. This entire matter is of Mukhani police station area of Haldwani. It is alleged that a 30 year old youth has married a minor, information about which came to the Anti Human Trafficking Unit. After this, the Anti Human Trafficking Unit along with the police took this action.
Mukhani police station said that at around 10 pm on Friday night, they had received information that a wedding ceremony was going on in the house of a woman resident of Pili Kothi, Haldwani. When the police reached the spot, they saw that a minor bride and groom had got married. After the marriage, a banquet was going on in the house. The Anti Human Trafficking Unit interrogated both the bride and the groom.
When the Anti Human Trafficking Unit checked the Aadhar cards of the bride and groom, it was found that the age of the groom was 30 years and the age of the bride was 16 years. The groom is a resident of Hathras district of UP, whose marriage was fixed with a 16-year-old girl resident of Haldwani. However, by the time the police came to know about it, both of them were already married.
According to the information received from the police, the minor bride studies in class 8 in a school in Haldwani. During interrogation, the minor’s mother told that her husband had left her 3 years ago and she had three daughters. His daughter herself wanted to get married, but she feared that her daughter was a minor. Meanwhile, he met a woman he knew, who said that she would get his daughter married to someone she knew. This marriage took place in his own house. So that no one knows anything.
The groom and his family reached here from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh on Friday. All the wedding rituals took place in the evening. There was a stir in the minor’s family due to the police action. In the entire matter, the police have taken action against the groom as well as six people from both the parties by registering a case under the Child Marriage Act and sending them to jail. Also, the minor has been handed over to CWC, where further action is being taken by CWC.
