The police have arrested the three accused who allegedly gang-raped an IIT BHU student at Kashi Hindu University in Varanasi. The names of the three accused are Kunal Pandey, Saksham Patel and Abhishek Chauhan. Regarding the case, opposition parties SP and Congress have alleged that the accused have links with the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has demanded an investigation into those who protected the accused.

What did the SP chief claim?
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, while sharing a photo of the accused on Twitter, claimed that they are the new crop of BJP workers who are flourishing and roaming openly under the patronage of senior BJP leaders, and whose search is on in the so-called zero tolerance government.

According to the information, the accused were identified only 7 days after the incident but the police took almost 60 days to arrest them. However, no statement has come from the police on this allegation.

What happened that night?
Let us tell you that an IIT student had filed a complaint in the Lanka police station on November 2, alleging that she had left her IIT hostel late on the night of November 1 and a friend of hers met her at a short distance and both of them went to the temple of Karman Baba. When they reached near, three people riding a motorcycle stopped them. The victim had alleged that the miscreants separated her from her friend and then took her to a corner by pressing her mouth and stripped her at gunpoint, made videos and took photographs. The victim had alleged that the miscreants held her hostage for about 15 minutes and then ran away with her mobile number. Lanka Police had registered an FIR in this matter.
