CJI DY Chandrachud’s important comment regarding decisions in Ram Mandir case

CJI DY Chandrachud on Monday (January 1) while making an important comment regarding the decisions in the Ram Mandir case, said that in the Ayodhya case, the judges had unanimously decided that there will be no mention of who has written the decision.

In an interview to news agency PTI, the CJI said, “Keeping in mind the long history of the conflict and diverse viewpoints, the Supreme Court had decided to give a unanimous verdict in the Ayodhya case.”

What is the Supreme Court’s decision on Ayodhya?

The Supreme Court had given its verdict on the Ram Temple case of Ayodhya on 9 November 2019. The special bench headed by the then CJI Ranjan Gogoi (comprising Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, Justice DY Chandrachud (now CJI), Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Abdul Nazeer) delivered the verdict unanimously.

In the decision, the Supreme Court had directed the government to form a trust for the construction of the temple, plan the construction and manage the property within three months. It was said in the decision that the entire disputed land of 2.77 acres would be given to Hindus. The possession of the land will remain with the government manager of the property under litigation. It was decided to give five acres of land to Muslims at some other place as an alternative.

After this, the Bhoomi Pujan program of Ram temple was held on 5 August 2020, in which many dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and saints and sages participated.
