‘It is important to save the institution of family, but men…’, Justice BV Nagarathna’s important comment

Supreme Court judge Justice BV Nagarathna said on Friday that it is important to save the institution of family and marriage, but for this men will have to give up their personality of considering themselves more important than others. He also said that the importance of women in marriage will have to be acknowledged and they will have to be stopped considering them inferior. Justice BV Nagarathna said this in her address at the 28th Justice Sunanda Bhandare Memorial Lecture.

Expressed concern over the status of women
Justice Nagarathna said that the breakdown of marriage also affects children. It is noteworthy that Justice BV Nagarathna will be appointed as the first Chief Justice of the country in the year 2027. On the status of women in the country’s workforce, Justice Nagarathna said that ‘when women become pregnant, they are asked when they last had their period. In the private sector, if a woman takes leave to give birth to a child, then when she returns she finds that someone else has been appointed in her place, this cannot continue.

It is important for the institution of marriage to continue
Justice Nagarathna said that ‘Man and woman are two important pillars of marriage. Family plays an important role but incidents of domestic violence are increasing. Men will have to give up their self-important personality. The institution of marriage and family must survive and should be based on happiness and the well-being of the family and women. If the identity of women in the family is lost then it is certain that one day the marriage will break. Behind every successful person is a family. The role of women should not be underestimated in marriage.
