Odisha: Wife committed suicide after hearing the news of husband’s death, husband found alive even after last rites

The wife was shocked to hear the news of her husband’s death in a hospital explosion in Khordha district of Odisha and allegedly committed suicide. Now news is coming that the person whose death was reported is alive and was undergoing treatment in the hospital. Officials of the concerned hospital gave this information on Friday.
Actually the person who died was someone else and his body was handed over to the family which is alive. The family accepted the body as their own and performed the last rites. Now the family of the deceased is demanding his dead body. Doctors said the confusion arose because the faces of the victims were unrecognizable after an explosion that occurred while an air conditioner was being serviced late last month.
The accident happened during AC servicing
On December 29, there was a massive explosion while filling gas in the air conditioner on the roof of a private hospital in which four people including Dilip Samant Rai and Jyoti Ranjan Mallick were seriously injured and were admitted to the Hi-Tech Hospital here. Of the four people, two died due to burns while two others are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Officials said all four people were seriously burnt and their faces were unrecognizable.
Identity error
Initially one of the two deceased was identified as Samantarai and the body was cremated. Later Dilip Samant Rai’s wife committed suicide in shock. However, on Thursday evening, the person named Jyoti Ranjan Mallik, who was undergoing treatment, was brought out of the ventilator. During conversation with the doctors he claimed that he was not Mallik but Dilip Samant Rai.
Hospital CEO Smita Padhi said, ‘The four people who were injured in the incident were employees of an outsourcing agency and not regular employees of the hospital. After the blast, an employee of the agency identified them, on the basis of which we recorded and the relatives of the victims also identified them.
He said, ‘The man identified as Dilip Samant Rai died during treatment on December 30 and as per protocol, we informed the police and his family members also signed the relevant documents and recovered the body from the police. Did.’
However, confusion arose over the person undergoing treatment claiming to be Dilip Samant Rai. Psychiatrist Amrit Pattojoshi was assigned the task of examining the mental condition of the patient. When asked about the names of Samantrai’s family members, the patient gave the correct answer, he said. “Since the matter could not be solved, we requested the police to investigate the matter,” he said.
Psychiatrist Amrit Pattojoshi said, “The patient gave us correct information about Samantarai. Family members of both the persons were present at that time. As a doctor, I am 90 percent sure that the patient is Dilip. If necessary, DNA analysis will be done.
Police will investigate the matter
On the other hand, Mallik’s family members, who were hopeful of his recovery, are now demanding his body. But the hospital authorities have handed over his body to Samantarai’s family and his last rites have been performed. Doctors said that the confusion was because the faces of the persons were not recognizable due to the explosion. Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said that an ACP rank officer will investigate the case.
He said, ‘So far we have not found any case of medical negligence. Action will be taken if negligence is found. Four people have been seriously injured and they have been identified by the contractor.
