Goyal, with ‘folded hands’, told the court that he has ‘lost every hope of life’ and does not expect to live in his current condition. ‘Would prefer to die in jail’. Let us tell you that Naresh Goyal is an accused in the Canara Bank fraud case of Rs 538 crore.
According to court records, ‘Seventy-year-old Naresh Goyal had tears in his eyes. He told the court that he misses his wife Anita a lot, who is in advanced stage of cancer. The ED (Enforcement Directorate) had arrested Goyal on September 1 last year in an alleged bank fraud case. He is currently in judicial custody in Arthur Road Jail, Mumbai.
Naresh Goyal had requested the judge for personal appearance
Goyal had filed a bail plea before special judge MG Deshpande. He was produced in the court on Saturday and during the proceedings, the Jet Airways founder requested a personal hearing for a few minutes, which the judge allowed. According to the court’s ‘Roznama’ (record of daily hearing), ‘Naresh Goyal folded his hands and said that his health is very bad. During this time he was shivering continuously.
The judge said, ‘I listened to him patiently and also paid attention to him when he presented his views. I found that his whole body was trembling. He needs help even to stand. Pointing to his knees, Naresh Goyal said that they were swollen and painful and he was unable to bend his legs. The Jet Airways founder brought to the notice of the court that he experiences severe pain while urinating and sometimes even blood comes out through the urine, along with unbearable pain. He told the court, ‘Most of the time, I do not get help. Jail staff also have their limits in helping.
Goyal asked the court not to send him to JJ Hospital
According to the court diary, Naresh Goyal told the judge with tears in his eyes, ‘I have become very weak and there is no point in referring me to JJ Hospital. Traveling from Arthur Road Jail to the hospital with other prisoners is very troublesome and tiring, which I cannot bear. There is always a long queue of patients and I cannot reach the doctor on time, and whenever the doctor examines me, further follow-up is not possible. These things are having a very bad effect on my health. My wife Anita is in advanced stage of cancer and is undergoing treatment. There is no one to take care of him. Because my only daughter is also suffering from health problems.
