Plan for Lakshadweep also
During Sun Haiyan’s visit to Maldives, there is speculation that there will be talks on strengthening cooperation between China and Maldives in many fields as well as military aspect. Along with this, the revival of the China-led Joint Ocean Observation Station is being built in Makunudhu in 2017. This plan is said to be near Minicoy island near Lakshadweep. This is being considered as a plan being done in response to the recent dispute regarding Lakshadweep. Chinese leader Sun is on a visit to Maldives from January 21 to 23 at the invitation of Maldivian Foreign Minister Musa Zameer. She has met Muizzu and will also attend some other events. Sun’s visit follows President Muizzu’s state visit to China earlier this month. After Muizzu became President, such high-level visits from China to Maldives have increased.
