India's first woman mahout Parbati Baruah will receive Padma Shri.

Parbati Barua of Assam has the distinction of being India’s first female mahout. He will be awarded Padmashree for social work. Parbati, skilled in elephant handling, started taming wild elephants at the age of 14. Parbati, who overcame stereotypes, has carved a niche for herself in this traditionally male-dominated profession.

Yashwant Singh Katoch, resident of Pauri district of Uttarakhand, has been awarded Padma Shri on Republic Day. After which there is a wave of happiness among the people interested in the history of Uttarakhand. Yashwant Singh Katoch has a special contribution in the field of history of Uttarakhand. He has served as a teacher for 33 years.

Dr. Yashwant Singh, a renowned historian and teacher resident of Ekeshwar block of Pauri district of Uttarakhand, has been awarded Padma Shri by the President on the occasion of Republic Day. Historians, teachers, writers, litterateurs, folk artists and cultural workers have expressed happiness and congratulated him on receiving Padmashree. Along with this, CM Dhami has also congratulated him.

Has made special contribution in the field of history
Dr. Katoch has made a special contribution in the field of history. In the year 1974, he obtained first position in the subject of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archeology from Agra University. After which, in the year 1978, he presented a research paper on the archeology of Garhwal Himalaya at Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University and was awarded the degree of DPhil by the university.

Served as a teacher for 33 years
Let us tell you that Dr. Katoch served as a teacher for 33 years. In the year 1995, he retired from the post of Principal. Even after this he continued doing research in the field of history. Even after retirement, he has been continuously writing on art, culture, history and archeology of India.

Let us tell you that he has written Archeology of Central Himalayas (1981), Military Tradition of Uttarakhand (1994), Footprints of Culture (1996), Ancient Medieval Indian City Fund, Central Himalayas Volume 2 and 3, Singh’s Best Essays (Edited), Central Worked to weave history through works like the first volume of Himalaya Granth series, new history of Uttarakhand, major inscriptions of Garhwal. Along with this, he was also honored by the then Governor of UP in 1995 for his fundamental contribution to Himalayan history and archaeology.
