Whatever happened in Kashi-Mathura, happened… why court after 300 years? Historian Irfan Habib said – there is no justification for change now

Renowned historian Prof. Irfan Habib said that there were temples in Varanasi-Mathura, they were demolished, this is absolutely true. This has been mentioned in many history books. There is no need for any survey or court to prove this. He said that Aurangzeb had done wrong things, but now the situation of 1947 will have to be maintained. If any change has to be made then the law will have to be changed. There is no point in repairing them after 300 years.

Historian Professor Irfan Habib said that raising the issue of Mathura and Kashi after 300 years should raise questions. He said that change in Kashi and Mathura is possible only through law. Historian Irfan Habib also said that their present form is protected under the Places of Worship Act of 1991. According to this, the situation of 1947 will have to be maintained. If any change has to be made then the law will have to be changed. What is the justification for repairing them after three hundred, four hundred years?

Temples were built by demolishing Buddhist monasteries
Giving an example, Irfan Habib said that thousands of Buddhist monasteries in India were demolished and temples were built. Will you break them too? The Mahabodhi Temple of Gaya is an example of this. People of Shaivism took over there, although now both Hindus and Buddhists worship there. Irfan Habib said that during the time of Aurangzeb, Bir Singh Bundela had built a big temple in Mathura. Aurangzeb demolished the temple of Mathura and built a mosque. Even in Kashi Vishwanath, Aurangzeb demolished the temples and built a mosque. There is no doubt about it, it is written in the dates. But the work which Aurangzeb had done, should be done after 300 years, it is a matter of thinking. It is said in Archeology that any building, be it a mosque or a temple, should not be demolished. According to archaeology, if any building is more than 200 years old then it should not be tampered with.
