‘You do, otherwise we will …’ on the case of permanent commission of women in Coast Guard, SC cracked the center

On a petition filed by the Lady Coast Guard for the sustainable commission by the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court has strongly rebuked the Central Government. On the petition of women, the court said in a tone, “If you do not, then we will do.” Women’s officials filed a petition with the demand for permanent commission in Coast Guard. On this case, the head of three judges led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud was heard. The bench said, “Women can not be left behind, if you do not do this then we will do.” The Bench led by the CJI said, “There is no point in all kinds of processes and debates in 2024, so you look at the issue. If you can not do it.” Priyanka Tyagi filed in the petition coast guard.

Next hearing in court will be on March 1

Attorney General R Venkataramani, appearing for the Central Government, told the bench that the Coast Guard works a little differently from the Army and Navy. The board has been constituted and there is a need for structural changes which are going on. The court has now asked the Center to file its reply and has fixed the hearing for March 1.

‘You talk a lot about women power…’

On the previous date of hearing, the court had come down hard on the Centre, saying, “You talk about women power, now show it here. You are in the deep end of the sea here. I don’t think the coast guards can say That they can do it.” When the Army and Navy have done all this, then you too should move away from this line. You all have not yet read the decision of Babita Punia.”

In the decision of Babita Punia, the Supreme Court had accepted that women officers of Short Service Commission are equally entitled to permanent commission as men. The court even said, “Why are you so patriarchal that you do not want to see women in the Coast Guard?” He had said, “We will open up the entire canvas, the time is gone where we used to say that women cannot be in the Coast Guard, women can guard the borders and they can guard the coasts also.”
