Odisha / Bhubaneswar: Shameful! Woman’s dead body lay there for 2 days for 10 kg mutton, cremation took place after accepting the condition of mass feast

A surprising news has come out from Mayurbhanj area of Odisha. Due to not being given a feast of 10 kg mutton, the body of an elderly woman remained lying for two days and her last rites were not performed. Finally, when the son of the deceased elderly woman agreed to organize a feast, the villagers agreed to attend the funeral.

Actually, seventy year old Sombari Singh died on Saturday in Telabila village of Mayurbhanj. According to local customs, in the event of a marriage or death in a family, it is customary for the villagers to organize a community feast. Under this, the villagers demanded a feast of mutton from the son of the deceased woman but due to lack of money he expressed his inability to do so.

According to the information, despite two marriage ceremonies being organized in Somabari’s family, no such community feast was organized, due to which the village head and other people were dissatisfied. When Sombari died on Saturday, villagers expressed their grievances and demanded that ten kilos of meat be provided by the deceased’s family for the last rites.

When the son of the deceased Sombari Singh did not accept this demand, the villagers refused to take part in the last rites, after which the body of the deceased woman remained unclaimed for two days. With no other solution in sight, the son of the deceased woman finally agreed to the villagers’ demand and agreed to provide mutton (meat) for the group feast. After this the villagers considered and the last rites process was completed.

Regarding this incident, the elder son of the deceased woman said, ‘The villagers demanded goat or sheep meat for the feast and finally I accepted their demand because we had been spending the last two days for the last rites of our mother. Been waiting for days.
