Why Samajwadi Party does not field candidates in Uttarakhand, why the bicycle could never climb the mountain?

This time too, Samajwadi Party has not fielded its candidates on any seat in Uttarakhand in the Lok Sabha elections. If we look at the electoral history of Uttarakhand, Samajwadi Party could win a seat only once. But Samajwadi Party could never climb the mountain. Earlier, SP made a lot of efforts to strengthen its party in Uttarakhand, but now SP has stopped fielding candidates in the elections.

Why does SP not field candidates in Uttarakhand?
Samajwadi Party had not fielded candidates on any seat even in the last Lok Sabha elections. This time also SP has not fielded its candidate on even one of the five seats. After which the question arises that why SP does not field candidates in Uttarakhand. There is no single reason behind it, there are many reasons behind it. The biggest reason for which is the Rampur Tiraha incident. Even today the people of Uttarakhand have not been able to forget this. This is the reason why SP could never get much success in Uttarakhand. Every time the bicycle could not run in Uttarakhand.

Samajwadi Party has won only one seat till date
Let us tell you that till date Samajwadi Party has been able to win only one seat in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand. In the 2004 elections, SP had won from Haridwar. This year SP had fielded Rajendra Body. This was the first election when Samajwadi Party opened its account in Uttarakhand. After this, SP could never get success in Uttarakhand neither in the Lok Sabha elections nor in the Assembly elections.

If we talk about the first and 2002 assembly elections in Uttarakhand, the margin of victory of SP on many seats was marginal. But in 21 years till date not a single SP MLA has been able to reach the assembly. Nor could any candidate become MP after 2004.

This is how SP’s graph fell in Uttarakhand
In the year 2002, Samajwadi Party got around 7.89 percent votes. In this election, SP contested on 56 seats. But after this the graph of SP kept falling in the state. In 2007, SP contested elections on 42 seats and secured 6.5 percent votes.

By the year 2012, the condition of SP deteriorated and its graph fell so much that its vote percentage came down to 1.5 percent. In the year 2017, the effect of the conflict between SP in Uttar Pradesh was also seen in Uttarakhand. As a result, in the year 2017, SP contested only 18 seats in Uttarakhand and this time the vote percentage of SP became negligible.

Why could a bicycle never climb a mountain?
There are many reasons why cycling has not been able to conquer Uttarakhand and maintain its hold on the mountains. The biggest of which is the Rampur Tiraha incident. In the year 1994, on the appeal of Rajya Andolan Sangharsh Committee, women, men and youth were going to protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in October demanding a separate hill state of Uttarakhand. But Mulayam Singh Yadav’s government in Uttar Pradesh did not allow him to go ahead. Various tactics were adopted to stop the agitators.

Initially a blockade was imposed on the Narsan border but here the administration became helpless in front of the agitators and the agitators moved ahead. When the convoy of agitators from Garhwal and Kumaon reached Rampur Tiraha in Muzaffarnagar, the police administration opened fire on them on the orders of the government. Even women were brutalized and raped. During this period, seven agitators died and many agitators were seriously injured.

This incident filled the hearts of the mountain people with hatred towards the Samajwadi Party. Along with this it also left wounds that never heal. No leader has ever been able to wash away this stigma on the Samajwadi Party and this is the biggest reason why the cycle could never climb the mountains nor could it ever establish its political base in Uttarakhand.

SP lost due to lack of leadership
On one hand, Rampur Tiraha incident is the reason for SP not winning in Uttarakhand, on the other hand, due to caste and religious equations and lack of leadership, SP lost in Uttarakhand. SP’s traditional voters in UP are considered to be Yadavs and Muslims. But Yadav community does not have any special base in Uttarakhand whereas Muslims constitute 13 percent. Along with this, Muslim voters in Uttarakhand are limited to only three districts. Their population in the mountains is negligible.

The special thing here is that most of the Muslim voters of Uttarakhand are supporters of Congress, due to which SP could not strengthen its political base in Uttarakhand. But even after this, SP tried its luck many times but due to lack of leadership, SP could never win except in the year 2004. While on one hand SP has good leadership in Uttar Pradesh, on the other hand it is not so in Uttarakhand. SP neither has an organization nor strong leadership in Uttarakhand. It can be said that SP lost in Uttarakhand also due to lack of leadership.
