21 retired judges wrote a letter to CJI DY Chandrachud, said- efforts are being made to reduce public trust
21 retired judges have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. In this letter, retired judges have alleged that efforts are being made by some people to weaken the judiciary. In the letter, retired judges wrote that some groups are trying to weaken the judiciary by creating pressure, spreading misinformation and public humiliation. We jointly express our concern regarding this. He wrote that it has come to our notice that such actions are being taken by some elements keeping in mind narrow political interests and personal gains. They are trying to undermine public confidence in our judicial system.
Retired judges wrote a letter to the Chief Justice
Let us tell you that the judges who have written a letter to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud include 4 retired judges of the Supreme Court, Deepak Verma, Krishna Murari, Dinesh Maheshwari and MR Shah. There are 17 former judges who have been working in different High Courts. These people include SM Soni, Ambadas Joshi, Pramod Kohli, SN Dhingra, RK Gauba, Gyan Prakash Mittal, Raghuvendra Singh Rathore, Ajit Bharihoke, Ramesh Kumar Meerutiya, Rakesh Saxena, Karamchand Puri and Narendra Kumar. Other former judges of the High Court include SN Srivastava, Rajesh Kumar, PN Raveendran, Lokpal Singh and Rajeev Lochan. These judges have expressed their views by writing a letter to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
What did the retired judge say?
In the letter, 21 judges further wrote that they are concerned about misinformation and tactics and inciting public sentiments against the judiciary. This is unethical and harmful to the fundamental principles of our democracy. In the letter written by the judges, it was said that if the decisions taken by the court match someone’s views, then it is highly appreciated. But decisions which do not match people’s views are criticized. This weakens judicial review and the rule of law in the country.
