Uttar Pradesh: Heat has become fatal in Mirzapur too, 12 election workers have died so far, 16 are in hospital

The Lok Sabha elections have reached their final phase. The seventh and final phase of voting is to be held tomorrow, June 1. Meanwhile, 12 people on election duty have lost their lives due to severe heat and heatwave in Mirzapur. At the same time, 16 home guards have been admitted to the trauma center for treatment after their health deteriorated. All these home guards were on duty for the seventh phase of voting. It is being told that the deceased had reached the Polytechnic ground instead of leaving for the polling party.

According to the information, 3 employees of the district election have died. Apart from this, 9 home guards have lost their lives during election duty. The severe heat is being considered responsible for all this.

In fact, the heat has broken all records in North India. In many places, the temperature has gone above 51 degrees. Due to this, several dozen people have lost their lives so far. Talking about the temperature of Mirzapur, the maximum temperature of the district was recorded at 47 degrees on Friday. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature is expected to increase even more on Saturday. The temperature of the district may cross 49 degrees on Saturday. Meanwhile, on Friday, a home guard died due to deterioration in his health while on duty in the scorching sun.

Several dozen people died due to heatwave in North India

Let us tell you that even before this, several dozen people died due to increasing heat and heatwave across the country. Before Mirzapur, 43 people died due to severe heat. 32 people have lost their lives due to heat in Bihar. At the same time, 10 people have also lost their lives due to heat in Odisha. 32 people died due to heat in Bihar, out of which 17 in Aurangabad, six in Ara, three each in Gaya and Rohtas, two in Buxar and one in Patna. 10 people died in Rourkela, Odisha.

Apart from this, 5 people died in Palamu district of Jharkhand during the last 24 hours. At the same time, 10 people lost their lives in Odisha and 5 in Rajasthan and 1 person died in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, a 40-year-old man from Darbhanga, Bihar died due to heat in Delhi. He died of multiple organ failure after his body temperature rose to 108 degrees Fahrenheit, about 10 degrees above normal.

Advice being given to people in view of the scorching heat

  • Avoid exposure to heat, stay cool and avoid dehydration.
  • Pay attention to heat wave warnings on the media.
  • Drink as much water as possible. Drink even if you are not thirsty.
  • Wear light coloured sweat absorbing cotton clothes.
  • Use sunglasses, umbrella, hat and slippers while going out of the house.
  • If you work in the open, keep your head, face, hands and feet covered with a wet cloth. Use an umbrella to avoid the scorching sun.
  • Make the person/woman affected by heat wave lie down in the shade and wipe them with a wet cotton cloth or bathe them and consult a doctor immediately.
  • Keep drinking water with you while travelling. Eat raw onions and also keep them in your upper pocket.
  • Use home made beverages like lassi, raw mango drink, tamarind water, rice water, lemonade, buttermilk etc., so that the lack of water in the body can be compensated.
  • Recognize the symptoms of heat stroke, heat rash, heat camp such as weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, sweating, fainting etc. If you experience fainting or illness, seek medical advice immediately.
  • Keep your house cool. Use curtains, doors etc. and open them during night and evening to cool the rooms and house.
  • Use fans, wet clothes and take frequent bath. Keep cool drinking water at the workplace.
  • Caution workers to avoid direct sunlight. Try to do strenuous work during cool hours.
  • Increase the duration and frequency of rest when out of home.
  • Extra attention should be paid to pregnant women and sick workers.
