Uttarakhand: Rock fell near Dabrani on Gangotri NH, one dead-8 injured, traffic resumed

A big news is coming from Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. A big rock has fallen on the Gangotri National Highway near Dabrani on the Gangotri National Highway here. It is being told that the incident of rock fall occurred due to fire in the hill near Dabrani at around 12.59 pm. Some people have been buried under the debris due to the rock falling on the highway. On information, the police team immediately reached the spot and rescued the injured. So far 1 dead and 8 injured have been rescued. All the people are said to be from Dehradun.

6 injured from the spot were taken to Primary Health Center Harshil for treatment through 108 ambulance service while the other 2 injured were taken to District Hospital Uttarkashi. Dr. Vikram Mandal, Medical Officer in-charge of Harshil Primary Health Center, said that a total of 8 injured of Dabrani accident were brought to the health center. All have suffered minor injuries. No one is in a position to talk right now.

  1. Subhash Voniyal (son Homa Voniyal age-40 years) resident of village Kachta police station Kalsi Dehradun (seriously injured).
  2. Beena Voniyal (wife Subhash Voniyal age- 38 years) resident of village Kachta police station Kalsi Dehradun.
  3. Divyanshu (son Subhash Voniyal age-18 years)
  4. Himanshu (son Subhash Voniyal age- 16 years) is in Dabrani.
  5. Nitesh resident Muzaffarnagar UP.
  6. Meera (wife Nitesh resident Muzaffarnagar age- 35 years).
  7. Vishakha daughter Nitesh (age 25 years). Seriously injured.
  8. Radha (daughter Nitesh age- 16 years).

Relief and rescue teams on the spot: A private Bolero vehicle, a bike, a Maruti 800 vehicle, a BRO truck, a JCB machine and a water tanker have been damaged in the accident. On receiving the information of the incident, District Magistrate Dr. Meherban Singh Bisht directed the relief and rescue teams to reach the spot immediately. Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Revenue Department and Click Response (QRT) teams of Disaster Management from the district headquarters reached the spot and carried out the rescue. For this operation, ambulance vehicles and medical teams were sent to the spot from the district headquarters as well as Bhatwadi and Harshil.

Cause of the accident: The forest fire is being said to be the cause of this accident. This accident happened due to forest fire and breaking of HT line of electricity as well as falling of stones from the hill in the afternoon. Due to the stones falling from the hill, a truck of Border Roads Organisation engaged in wall construction on the lower side of the road, a JCB machine and water tanker as well as a private Bolero vehicle, a bike, a Maruti 800 vehicle have been damaged. It has been told that these days the construction work of embankment is being done by the Border Roads Organisation on the outer side of the road at the place of the accident. SDRF Inspector-in-charge Jagdamba Prasad Bijalwan said that one body has been recovered. Boulders and stones are still falling there intermittently. There is a fire in the forests above Dabrani, due to which boulders fell there.

Continuously falling stones: Let us tell you that even after the incident, stones were continuously falling from the hill. In view of the immediate situation, traffic was stopped at a safe place on both sides of the Gangotri National Highway. About 500 vehicles were stopped between Gangotri and Harshil. At present, traffic has been resumed near Dabrani. Passenger vehicles coming from Gangotri to Uttarkashi are being slowly moved forward.

Damaged vehicles: Based on the pictures that have surfaced, it is being estimated that the rock has fallen on the road with a very large quantity and velocity. Large pieces of rock are seen fallen on the road.
