BJP is back in Arunachal

BJP has returned to power in Arunachal Pradesh for the third time. BJP candidates have won 46 seats. All the credit for this victory goes to Pema Khandu. However, Pema Khandu’s political journey began with a tragedy. His father and former Arunachal CM Dorjee Khandu died in a helicopter in 2011.

Joined Congress in the year 2000

Let us tell you that Pema Khandu joined Congress in the year 2000 and was elected unopposed in the assembly by-election as a Congress candidate from his father’s constituency Mukto in June 2011. In a few years, Pema Khandu has emerged as a big leader in Arunachal Pradesh. Due to his strategy, he has made the lotus bloom again in this northeastern state.

Let us tell you that Pema Khandu became the Minister of Water Resources Development and Tourism in CM Nabam Tuki’s government. His leadership scope grew rapidly after the constitutional crisis in January 2016, when President’s rule was imposed in the state.

Khandu became CM at the age of just 37

Khandu became the CM of the state in 2016 at the age of just 37. After assuming office as the Chief Minister, Khandu and his cabinet have changed their party twice – from Congress to People’s Party of Arunachal Pradesh and then to BJP, that too in a span of just five months. Just three months into his tenure, 43 MLAs of the ruling Congress joined the BJP’s ally PPA. In 2019, Khandu won the Mukto assembly seat for the second time and became the CM without any political hitch.
