After the declaration of the results of the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has received eight petitions regarding complaints of EVM tampering. These petitions have been filed by both BJP and Congress.

BJP candidate from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, Sujay Vikhe Patil has demanded verification of EVM machines at 40 polling stations. In fact, Vikhe Patil lost this seat to Nilesh Lanke of NCP (Sharad Pawar).

According to the data shared by the Election Commission, YSRCP candidates in Andhra Pradesh and DMK candidates in Tamil Nadu have also filed petitions in the court for investigation of EVMs.

According to the Election Commission, petitions have been filed for EVM testing in eight parliamentary seats of six states. In total, demand has been made for testing of machines at 92 polling stations.

At the same time, BJP candidates from Vellore seat in Tamil Nadu and Zaheerabad seat in Telangana have filed petitions demanding EVM testing. Along with this, Congress candidates from Karnal and Faridabad seats in Haryana, Kanker seat in Chhattisgarh have demanded EVM testing.

According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Election Commission on June 1, candidates who came second or third in the election results will have to pay Rs 47,000 for EVM verification. This amount will be given to EVM manufacturing companies BEL and ECIL, which will check the EVMs.

Let us tell you that on April 26, the Supreme Court rejected the demand for conducting elections with ballot paper, calling the fear of EVM tampering baseless. However, while giving this verdict, Justice Khanna had said that the candidates will have to bear the cost of VVPAT verification themselves. If in any situation tampering is found in the EVM, the expense will be refunded.
