Uttarakhand: Sharda river is in spate, crosses danger mark, traffic on India-Nepal bridge closed

The series of rains continues in Uttarakhand. Due to the continuous torrential rains in the mountainous region of Champawat for the last four days, the Saryu, Ramganga and Sharda rivers of the district have overflowed. At the same time, the water level of Sharda river in Tanakpur and Banbasa area has crossed the danger mark. Due to which the police has closed the international bridge connecting India Nepal in Banbasa for traffic.

Sharda river in spate

Giving information, Sharda Barrage outpost in-charge Lalit Pandey said that on Sunday, traffic has been closed on the Banbasa bridge connecting India Nepal. Sharda river has crossed the danger mark. Due to which the gate has been closed by the police administration. The outpost in-charge said that Sharda Barrage outpost police is completely on alert mode and is keeping an eye on the water level of the river. People are being appealed not to go out in heavy rain. At the same time, 1 lakh 66 thousand 160 cusecs of water has been released from Banbasa Barrage.

IMD issued heavy rain alert for these districts

According to the forecast issued by the Director of Meteorological Department Vikram Singh, a red alert for heavy rain has been issued in some areas of Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts today. While there is an orange alert for heavy rain in some places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri and Uttarkashi districts. In view of the possibility of landslides, meteorologists have instructed people traveling in the mountains to be cautious.
