Uttarakhand: Rain wreaked havoc, landslide near Quarab on Haldwani-Bhowali-Almora highway, traffic halted

Monsoon rains have wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand. Traffic has come to a complete standstill due to a landslide near Quarab on the Haldwani-Bhowali-Almora highway. In view of the danger, the administration has closed the traffic on the highway. The danger is increasing due to continuous rain since late night.

Water level of rivers increased due to heavy rains
Due to torrential rains in Nainital districts for the last 24 hours, landslides are continuously occurring in the mountainous areas and waterlogging in the plains and the water level in the rivers is increasing. In Haldwani and its surrounding areas, many areas have been submerged due to heavy rains, while many localities are flooded.

Instructions given to response teams to remain on alert mode
Police and administration are constantly keeping the response teams on alert mode. DIG Kumaon Dr. Yogendra Rawat says that SDRF and police have been kept on alert mode with equipment in all the districts of Kumaon division. SDRF team is reaching wherever help is being called.

33 roads closed in the district due to heavy rains
Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Nainital. Due to landslides, two district roads and 33 roads including five state roads are closed. 134 mm of rain has been recorded in the district in the last 24 hours. While 118 mm of rain has been recorded in Haldwani, 114 mm in Koshiyakutoli, 105 mm in Dhari. Gaula, Kosi and Nandhaur rivers are also in spate.
