US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the first batch of F-16 fighter jets is being sent to Ukraine. Speaking during the NATO summit on Wednesday, Blinken said that the F-16 is being sent to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands. According to a CNN report, Blinken said that F-16 jets would fly in the skies of Ukraine to effectively counter the Russian invasion. Ukraine had been demanding modern aircraft for a long time. After this, US President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to transfer F-16. However, many experts had expressed concern over the time taken to train Ukrainian personnel to fly the aircraft. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is at the top of the agenda of the NATO summit being held in the US. Leaders of 32 NATO member countries are attending this summit. These include the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky thanked for giving jets
NATO members have announced the delivery of five additional Patriot and other strategic air defense systems to help Ukraine. On the transfer of F-16, the leaders of the US, Netherlands and Denmark issued a joint statement saying, ‘We are committed to further enhancing Ukraine’s air capabilities. Squadrons of fourth-generation F-16 aircraft are joining the Ukrainian Air Force. The alliance intends to support their maintenance and armament.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed relief and happiness over Ukraine getting F-16 fighter jets. Posting on social media, Zelensky wrote that we thank the US, Denmark and the Netherlands for strengthening Ukraine’s Air Force by giving F-16. I believe these jets will help better protect the people of Ukraine from Russian attacks. This will prevent incidents like the attack on the children’s hospital in Kiev.
