Former West Bengal CM Budhadev Bhattacharya is no more, breathed his last at the age of 80

Former Chief Minister of Bengal and veteran Left leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee died on Thursday. He breathed his last at his residence in Kolkata at 8.20 am at the age of 80.

He was ill for a long time. He had difficulty in breathing. Due to this he was also admitted to the hospital several times. As soon as the news of his death came out, a wave of mourning spread in the political world. His son Suchetan Bhattacharya confirmed his death.

He remained CM for ten years

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was the second and last CPM Chief Minister during the 34-year rule of the Left Front in Bengal. The CPI(M) leader was the Chief Minister of the state from 2000 to 2011. Bhattacharya resigned from the Politburo and Central Committee of the CPI(M) in 2015 and also left the membership of the party’s state secretariat in 2018.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya will be given state honours: Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over the demise of Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. She posted on Twitter and wrote, “Shocked and saddened by the sudden demise of Chief Minister Shri Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. I have known him for the last several decades and I met him several times in the last few years when he was ill. My heartfelt condolences are with his family in this hour of grief.

She further said that I express my condolences to the members of the CPI(M) party and all his followers. We have already decided that we will give him full respect and formal honour during his last journey and rites.

Suvendu Adhikari paid tribute

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari paid tribute to the demise of former Bengal CM. He posted on social media handle X and wrote, “I am deeply saddened to know that former West Bengal Chief Minister Shri Budhadev Bhattacharya has passed away. My condolences to his family members. I pray that his soul rests in peace. Om Shanti.

Last rites will be performed tomorrow

CPIM state president Mohammad Salim said that his last rites will be performed tomorrow. His last rites will start from the CPI(M) state headquarters Alimuddin Street at 4:00 pm on Friday.
