China joins forces with Israel’s arch enemy, Dragon supports Iran’s right to defend itself, is this a green signal for war?
Amid the fear of war between Israel and Iran, Tehran has received major support from China. China has said that it supports Iran in protecting its ‘sovereignty, security and national dignity’. According to the statement of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi told this to Iran’s acting Foreign Minister by calling him. Wang Yi reiterated Beijing’s condemnation of the killing of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyya in Tehran on July 31 in a phone conversation. It said that this attack has violated Iran’s sovereignty and threatened regional stability.
Threat of war after Haniyya’s murder
Ismail Haniyya was assassinated in Tehran. He had gone to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian. In the early morning of July 31, he was targeted in the highly secured military complex of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Hamas, the Palestinian extremist group of Iran and Gaza, has accused Israel of killing Haniyya.
Israel has neither taken responsibility for the killing nor denied it. Iran has vowed to give Israel ‘severe punishment’ for the killing, raising the risk of a war breaking out in the Middle East. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has openly threatened Israel. Meanwhile, China’s support has raised questions about whether it has given Tehran a green signal to attack Israel.
Iran may attack soon
Meanwhile, Israeli intelligence agencies believe that Iran may attack Israel in the coming days. This could also happen before the talks on hostages on Thursday. This marks a change in recent assessments, which suggested that international pressure was preventing Iran from launching a direct attack against Israel. The latest inputs from Israeli intelligence agencies say that Iran has decided to directly target Israel to avenge Hania’s killing.
