The President expressed grief over women’s safety, but why only on one state?
Status of states in terms of crime against women:
- Uttar Pradesh – 15,828
- Delhi – 3,336
- Maharashtra – 1,504
- Haryana – 1,460
- Bihar – 1,456
Hon’ble President, recently, you have expressed deep concern over the crimes against women in West Bengal, which is right and necessary in a democracy. But, your silence on Uttar Pradesh, the state with the highest number of crimes against women, which is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party, raises a big question mark on the basic spirit of the Constitution of the country. The number of crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh, which is around 15,828, presents a scary picture. This state has become a dangerous zone for women, where there is no guarantee of their safety. Yet, a constitutional head like you is silent on this issue. Why is this? Doesn’t this indicate dividing Indian citizens and paying attention to only selective cases? It is your moral and constitutional duty to protect the safety of women, no matter which state they belong to, no matter which political party rules the state. It is imperative to draw your attention to this lopsided approach. You are kindly requested to equally express your concern on the issues of women’s safety in BJP ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and motivate the government to take strict action. Women’s rights and their safety are beyond any political boundaries. Ensuring women’s safety should be our priority. The government has to take strict action. Hope, you will give quick and fair response on this serious issue.
