Now say goodbye to glasses! Such eye drops have been launched in India, the specs will be removed in 15 minutes, government has approved

Do you also often feel helpless without glasses while watching TV or reading newspapers due to your weak eyesight? Then this news is for you. Now by applying an eye drop, your eyesight will return temporarily within 15 minutes. After more than two years of deliberation, the drug regulator i.e. Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) has approved India’s first eye drop to eliminate the need for reading glasses.

Mumbai-based Entod Pharmaceuticals on Tuesday launched “Presvu” eye drops made using pilocarpine. This drug treats ‘presbyopia’ by reducing the size of the pupils of the eye. This way it helps to see anything close. The condition of presbyopia is age-related and works on the reduction in the ability of the eyes to focus on nearby objects.

Eyesight will improve for 6 hours

In an interview to News18, Nikhil K Masurkar, CEO of Entode Pharmaceuticals, said that one drop of the drug starts working in just 15 minutes and its effect lasts for the next six hours. If the second drop is also applied within three to six hours of the first drop, the effect will last even longer. “Until now, there was no drug-based solution for blurry, near vision except reading glasses, contact lenses or some surgical interventions,” he said.

When and for how much is it available?

Entode Pharmaceuticals specializes in eye, ENT and dermatology medicines and exports to over 60 countries. From the first week of October, prescription-based drops will be available in pharmacies at a price of Rs 350. The drug is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate presbyopia for people aged 40 to 55 years. Masurkar claims that the drug is the first of its kind in India that has been tested on Indian eyes and customized according to the genetic basis of the Indian population.
