The country of North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un was recently shaken by devastating floods. Kim Jong has hanged 30 high-ranking officials for failing to prevent this flood. The devastating flood devastated parts of Chagang province, killing more than 4000 North Koreans. According to South Korean news outlet Chosun TV, North Korean officials said, ‘Those who increased the number of unacceptable casualties will be severely punished.’
According to the report, 20-30 prominent party persons in the flood-affected area were executed at the same time late last month. Apart from this, Kang Bong-hoon, the dismissed party secretary of Chagang province, has also been arrested for this situation. According to the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong-un has asked officials to strictly punish those who have not been able to fulfill their responsibilities to prevent the disaster.
Devastation due to heavy floods
Landslides and floods were seen in North Korea in July due to heavy rains. This affected more than 4000 houses. 5000 people were isolated. Kim Jong personally inspected the flood-affected areas. Video footage related to this came to light. According to KCNA, more than 15,400 people, including children, elderly and disabled soldiers, have been accommodated in Pyongyang’s facility. Kim Jong Un has said that it will take two to three months to rebuild the flood-affected areas. Kim Jong said that some parts of the province were declared special disaster emergency areas.
Floods increasing due to deforestation
Floods in North Korea are nothing new. This situation has become even more serious due to large-scale deforestation in the mountains. According to KCNA report, Kim Jong had earlier attacked the reports which said that the death toll was expected to be more than 1000-1500. According to Kim Jong, these reports were spread to defame him. Meanwhile, North Korea is considering opening its doors to boost its tourism and economy.
