Uttarakhand: IG told the truth of Uttarakhand cyber attack, police busy in solving the mystery, SIT was formed
After the cyber attack on Uttarakhand’s state data center on October 2, almost all websites and applications are now working smoothly. At the same time, Uttarakhand Police has started tracking down the suspected cyber attackers. On Tuesday, October 8, Inspector General of Police (IG) Law and Order Nilesh Anand Bharane gave detailed information about the cyber attack in a press conference.
IG Bharane said that CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems) stopped working between 2:45 and 2:55 pm on October 2. After this, when other systems were checked, they were also not working, which was informed to ITDA (Information Technology Development Agency). So when the ITDA server was checked, hacking related messages were visible on all the folders of the server.
According to IG Bharane, the person who did the hacking through the message had given a mail ID for contact. Also, information was given that the data will be made available safely after payment, due to which a case was registered in Cyber Crime Police Station on October 3 under Section 308 (4) BNS and 65/66/66-C IT Act. Also, instructions were given to investigate the whole matter seriously.
The IG said that considering the seriousness of this case of cyber attack, SSP STF Navneet Singh formed a special team. The special team formed under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Ankush Mishra will investigate the whole matter and take legal action. However, the police team has recovered the system and virus file to preserve all the digital logs and search. In the preliminary investigation, the technical reason for the virus is also being investigated.
Apart from this, a copy of the virtual machine of the technical equipment will be sent for forensic investigation. Also, the cyber infrastructure has been improved with the cyber experts of ITDA. IG Bharne said that the data center works on virtual machines. In such a situation, 10 to 12 virtual machines were affected by this attack, but as soon as the information about this attack was received, all the systems were stopped. However, now the police system has become normal. In view of the seriousness of this matter, cooperation has been taken from all the central agencies of the country, I4C Home Ministry, NIA, CERT-IN and NCIIPC Sumit agencies. All the machines of the data center have been scanned three times. Also, it has been scanned through different tools.
