Uttarakhand: No improvement even after warning, work taken away from EESL, now Dehradun Municipal Corporation will repair street lights itself

After repeated warnings, the Municipal Corporation has finally taken away the work of repair and maintenance of street lights of the city from EESL after not seeing any improvement in the work. Now the Municipal Corporation will repair the street lights itself. The Municipal Commissioner has issued orders in this regard. EESL company was looking after the repair work of more than one lakh street lights of the city since 2017.
The responsibility of repairing the street lights of the city has now been given to the Municipal Corporation. This work has been taken back from EESL. The order for which has been issued. The work of installing new lights will remain with EESL till December 2024. However, as per the instructions of the DM in backup, the corporation will also contact the rate of new lights and equipment. In the Municipal Corporation Dehradun area, complaints are being received about a large number of faulty street lights not being repaired. On which the concerned company did not respond, it has a backlog of up to 3-4 thousand, whereas according to the contract, the company has a provision to repair within 48 hours of receiving the complaint.
Taking the functioning of the company seriously, the District Magistrate summoned the CEO of the concerned company. After which he reprimanded him severely. Also, issued a warning of action. Due to the lack of transparency in the work, the call center and payment cell of the company being in Delhi, hundreds of miles away from Doon, the system was not improving. The responsibility and accountability was becoming the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation. Due to which the image of the Municipal Corporation was getting spoiled among the general public.
District Magistrate Savin Bansal said that now from Tuesday, the backlog of complaints of street light malfunctions will be resolved soon. For this, 35 teams from the Municipal Corporation premises will go to the wards with vehicles and repair the street lights. The teams will also be present in the Municipal Corporation premises every morning and evening.
