From pure honey produced in the mountain forests to organic mandua, jhangora, gahath, rajma grown in terraced fields and handmade woolen garments to handicrafts. The brand of pure Uttarakhandi products ‘House of Himalayas’ has managed to sell more than Rs 34 lakh in less than a year of its launch.
Under the Rural Development Department, House of Himalayas is a common brand of products made by women self-help groups, farmers, farmer producer organizations and rural entrepreneurs of Uttarakhand. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself during the Global Investor Summit held in Dehradun in December 2023. After the inauguration by the Prime Minister, the demand for the products of House of Himalayas has suddenly increased. In the last 11 months, House of Himalayas has managed to register a total sale of Rs 34,52,330. Target of annual sales of one crore
According to Secretary Rural Development Radhika Jha, more than sixty percent of Uttarakhand’s population lives in rural areas, so House of Himalayas is going to prove to be a game changer in terms of rural economy. Under the scheme, the target has been set to make five lakh women Lakhpati Didi by taking the total sales beyond crores in the next three years and taking their annual income beyond one lakh. Under the scheme, the target has been set to increase the income of farmers and rural women by 50 to 75 percent.
35 products in eight categories
Currently, a total of 35 products in eight categories have been included under the House of Himalayas brand. This includes millets biscuits, Munsiyari, Chakrata, Harshil’s Rajma, Amarnath, Toor Dal, traditional red rice of the hills, Jhangora, Gahath, Kale Bhatt, tea, oil, personal care, handicraft products. The government is emphasizing on buying the products of House of Himalayas on local fairs, festival occasions. Along with this, a strategy has been prepared to increase the sales of House of Himalayas through government programs and offices. Special gift packs were made available by House of Himalayas for festivals like Diwali, which were well liked.
For the overall development of the state, it is necessary to strengthen the economy of the villages. The House of Himalayas brand is playing an important role in achieving this goal. Under this brand, the traditional products of Uttarakhand are now reaching the country and abroad, the demand for the brand is also being increased through government procurement.
