Center approves disaster relief amount of Rs 139 crore for Uttarakhand, CM Dhami expresses gratitude to PM Modi
Disaster-like situations keep occurring in all the hilly states including Uttarakhand. The state has to suffer a lot during the disaster. To compensate for which, the state governments have also been demanding a relief package from the Government of India. In view of this, a high-level committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for disaster mitigation and capacity building projects. In the meeting, Rs 1,115.67 crore has been approved for all the states of the country. The committee has approved Rs 139 crore for the state of Uttarakhand. CM Dhami has thanked PM Modi and the entire committee including Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their cooperation.
The high-level committee headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, comprising Finance Minister, Agriculture Minister and Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, discussed the funding of the proposal to reduce landslide risk in 15 states of the country from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF). Also, the proposal for training and capacity building of civil defence volunteers in all states and union territories under preparedness and capacity building from the funding window of National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) was also discussed.
The high-level committee has approved the National Landslide Risk Reduction Project at a total cost of Rs 1000 crore in 15 states of the country (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal). Under which the committee has approved Rs 139 crore for Uttarakhand, Rs 139 crore for Himachal Pradesh, Rs 378 crore for 8 states of the Northeast, Rs 100 crore for Maharashtra, Rs 72 crore for Karnataka, Rs 72 crore for Kerala, Rs 50 crore for Tamil Nadu and Rs 50 crore for West Bengal.
Apart from this, the high-level committee has also approved another project at a cost of Rs 115.67 crore for training and capacity building of civil defence in all states and union territories. Earlier, the committee had approved urban flood risk reduction projects in seven cities with a total cost of Rs 3,075.65 crore and Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risk management in 4 states with a total cost of Rs 150 crore from NDMF.
