Around 18 thousand Indians can be deported during the reign of newly elected US President Donald Trump. This information has come to light from the data released by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
17,940 Indians stay is at risk
According to this, 17,940 Indians living in America are among the 1.45 million people who are at risk of being deported. ICE said that deporting immigrants living in America without proper documents is Trump’s border security agenda.
Donald Trump will take oath as President of America on January 20 next year. He has been in favor of a strict immigration policy for immigrants. ICE released this figure in November 2024.
Had to face a long legal process
According to this, 17,940 Indians have been included in the list of final orders, who are not in the custody of ICE but are waiting to be deported. Many of these Indians have faced the legal process for more than three years.
India is named in the report among the 15 countries that have been accused of not cooperating in the deportation process. According to the data, in the last 3 years, about 90,000 Indians have been caught entering the US border illegally.
Most of them belong to states like Punjab, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. However, the countries located near the border are still on top in the number of people crossing the border illegally into the US.
Honduras is at number one with 2,61,000 undocumented immigrants. After this, Guatemala is at number two with 2,53,000 immigrants. If we talk about Asia, China is at the top with 37,908 illegal immigrants. In the overall ranking, India is at 13th place with 17,940 immigrants.
