South Korea: President is in trouble, impeachment motion passed; PM takes over the reins of the country

South Korea’s parliament has voted to impeach President Yoon Suk-Yol. 204 votes were cast against him in the parliament. Whereas, only 85 votes were cast in his support. Under the constitution, Prime Minister Han Duk-Soo became the acting president. Yoon Suk-Yol’s powers as president have been suspended immediately.

Impeachment was imposed in the country for six hours

Recently, President Yoon had decided to impose martial law in the country. However, due to public protest and pressure created by opposition parties, the President withdrew the decision to reinstate martial law. Martial law was imposed in the country for about six hours.
