Guillain-Barré syndrome continues to wreak havoc in Maharashtra. The number of people infected with this disease has increased to 207. On Friday, February 14, 2 more infected were found in the state. So far 9 people have died due to this disease. On February 13, a 60-year-old woman died in Kolhapur.

The number of patients infected with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is increasing in Maharashtra. Most of the cases in the state are from Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. At the same time, a total of 9 patients have died due to this disease, out of which 4 died due to GBS and others were suspected patients of GBS.

A health department official said that a 60-year-old woman resident of Changid tehsil died on February 13. The official said, “He had paralysis in half of his body (lower part) and was first admitted to a hospital in Changid for treatment and then taken to Karnataka. He was brought back to a hospital in Kolhapur on February 11, where he died two days later.” What is Guillain Barre Syndrome? Guillain Barre Syndrome is a rare neurological disease. Its cases are not usually seen. According to doctors, in this the peripheral nerves get damaged. Due to this, weakness starts in the hands and feet. This is a serious neurological disease. In such a situation, if timely examination and treatment is done, then the patient can be completely cured. What are its symptoms Guillain Barre syndrome usually starts with tingling and weakness in the hands and feet. These symptoms can spread rapidly and turn into paralysis.

Its initial symptoms can be:-

  • Tingling in the hands, feet, ankles or wrists.
  • Weakness in the legs.
  • Weakness in walking, difficulty in climbing stairs.
  • Difficulty in speaking, chewing or swallowing food.
  • Double vision of the eyes or difficulty in moving the eyes.
  • Severe pain, especially severe pain in the muscles.
  • Problems in urination and bowel movement.
  • Difficulty in breathing.
