Uttar Pradesh: The name of the government school was again changed to ‘Shaheed Veer Abdul Hameed’, Akhilesh Yadav had raised questions

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav recently criticised the Uttar Pradesh government for removing the name of 1965 war hero Abdul Hamid from his school in Ghazipur district. Describing the act as “highly reprehensible”, Akhilesh Yadav said that for “some people” now all that is left is to change the name of “India” to “BJP”.

Abdul Hamid’s family protested against the removal of his name from the outer wall and gate of the school in which he once studied. The local education officer said that the incident took place during the painting of the school, which was later restored. However, locals say that in view of the public’s displeasure, the school administration rewrote Abdul Hamid’s name on the outer wall i.e. the entrance.

Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav shared a clip of a news article on the social media platform X and sharply criticised the BJP-led government on the issue. Akhilesh said, “It is extremely reprehensible and indecent that more importance is being given to someone else than those who sacrificed their lives for the country. Now the only thing left for some people is to change the name of the country from ‘Bharat’ to ‘BJP’.” He further said, “Those who neither played any role in getting independence nor in saving independence, how can they know the importance of martyrs.”

At the same time, according to the officials, recently after painting, the school of Dhamupur village of the district was renamed as ‘PM Shri Composite School’. Jameel Ahmed, grandson of Param Vir Chakra winner Abdul Hamid, said that the school was painted five days ago and ‘PM Shri Composite School’ was written on the entrance instead of ‘Shaheed Hameed Vidyalaya’. After the controversy, on Tuesday, it was restored as ‘Shaheed Veer Abdul Hameed PM Shri Composite School, Dhamupur, Jakhania, Ghazipur district’ at the main entrance.
