Cyclone Alfred: Cyclonic storm rises in the sea, fear of massive destruction, speed of 95 KM, 25 lakh people in danger

The threat of Cyclone Alfred looms over the east coast of Australia. It is considered to be one of the most dangerous cyclones of the last 50 years. It can hit the coast late Friday (7 March) or Saturday (8 March) morning and cause massive destruction.

Alfred is a category one cyclone which is considered equivalent to a tropical storm in the Atlantic Ocean. It is moving rapidly towards Brisbane where about 25 lakh people live.

By Friday (7 March) morning, this cyclone was about 195 km east of Brisbane and was moving west at a speed of 95 km per hour. Even before its impact, dangerous waves have started rising in the coastal areas.

Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology said that due to this cyclone, high waves are rising in the sea. A record wave of 12.3 meters high was seen on the Gold Coast, which has further increased the danger in the coastal areas.

Due to strong winds and heavy rains in northern New South Wales (NSW), 35,000 homes and businesses have lost power. The administration is constantly trying to restore power.

The government has warned people to stay away from coastal areas. The Gold Coast City Council has issued a warning of a fine of $ 10,000 (about Rs 8.71 lakh) for going near rocks and dangerous water.

Continuous rain and strong winds have increased the risk of flooding in rivers. The local administration has advised people to stay active and move to safer places.

The NSW State Emergency Service received more than 1,800 calls on Thursday (March 6). So far at least three flood rescue operations have been carried out, saving many lives.
