NASA selected team of four astronauts for Artemis II mission, will fly to Moon in 2024

The US space agency NASA on Monday announced a team of four astronauts, including a woman, for the lunar mission Artemis II. Astronauts will fly to the Moon next year under the Artemis II mission.

The team includes former US Navy pilot Reed Wiseman, African American Marine Victor Glover, Astronaut Christina Koch, Canadian Astronaut Jeremy Hansen. Christina Koch holds the world record for the longest spaceflight by a woman.

Last year’s Artemis II mission was successful. It was an unmanned lunar mission. Man first stepped on the moon in 1969. Neil Armstrong reached the surface of the moon in 1969.

Christina Koch, 44, the first female astronaut to walk on the moon, is an electrical engineer. She has lived in space for 328 days and holds the record for the longest stay in space by a woman.

She participated in the first all-female spacewalk in October 2019, along with another NASA astronaut, Jessica Meir. Jeremy Hanson, 47, is a resident of Canada. Prior to joining the Canadian Space Agency, he was a fighter pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. This will be his first space mission.
