Uttar Pradesh: Effect of riot in Prayagraj; Holi of others was spoiled along with their own, more than 150 injured

Holi is a festival symbolizing joy and enthusiasm, but due to hooliganism and carelessness during celebrations, many people’s lives were endangered. In the last 24 hours, more than 150 people were rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital. These included patients of road accidents, falling from height, fights and color getting into the eyes. Apart from SRN Hospital, the number of injured is constantly increasing in other major hospitals of the city.

71 injured were taken to the trauma center of Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, out of which more than 30 were admitted in the surgical emergency ward in critical condition. 75 patients arrived in the medicine emergency, 13 in the cardiology department and four in the emergency of the gynecology and obstetrics department.

During Holi, many road accidents occurred due to speeding bikes and other vehicles. According to the SRN hospital administration, 32 people injured due to road accidents have been admitted and are being treated. Incidents of quarrels and scuffles among the people creating ruckus during Holi were also reported, in which serious injuries were caused.

Cases of irritation and infection in the eyes due to chemical colours were also reported. Motilal Nehru Medical College media in-charge Dr. Santosh Singh said that many patients reached the emergency with eye problems. Some of these people needed immediate treatment.

Special arrangements were made

Special arrangements were made in the hospital in view of possible emergency situations during Holi. 50-bed emergency and 10-bed ICU were kept reserved in advance. The team of doctors and supporting health workers were fully alert. The injured were given immediate treatment.

Heavy drinks were served during Holi

Desi and English liquor worth one and a half billion was consumed in the division on Holi – The sale of foreign and desi liquor, wine and beer had increased manifold for the last several days on Holi. The Excise Department had expected liquor sales of more than Rs 2600 crore in the entire state.

Liquor was also sold as per the department’s expectations. Talking about Prayagraj division, liquor worth about Rs 160 crore was sold here. Liquor worth more than Rs 90 crore was sold in Prayagraj district alone.
