According to sources, the Punjab government will not extend the period of NSA against Amritpal’s 7 companions lodged in Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA). All these accused are accused of the attack on Ajnala police station. The Punjab government now wants to prosecute them in this case. According to sources, these seven accused will be brought to Punjab and a case will be filed against them. At the same time, the Punjab government has not yet taken any decision regarding Amritpal and his other two companions.

At the same time, recently, the central government had informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding Amritpal Singh, MP from Khadoor Sahib seat of Punjab, that the MP lodged in jail has been given 54 days leave. This information was given by Additional Solicitor General Satpal Jain before the division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumit Goel while presenting the letter issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on March 11.

Through this letter, it was told that Amritpal Singh has been allowed absence from June 24, 2024 to July 2, 2024, from July 22, 2024 to August 9, 2024 and from November 25, 2024 to December 20, 2024. On this, the division bench said that the petitioner was apprehensive of expulsion from Parliament, but this letter removes his worry.

Amritpal Singh, in his petition, had sought permission to meet officials and ministers for local development works related to MP fund, on which the division bench said that the proceedings of Parliament run under certain rules, so it would be appropriate that the petitioner apply to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha in this regard.

Amritpal is lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail

Amritpal Singh is also the head of Waris Punjab De organization. Currently lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Security Act. In his petition, he had sought permission to participate in the Lok Sabha session. He said that his continued absence was a violation of his constitutional rights and the people of his constituency were living without representation. He also argued that if his absence exceeds 60 days, his seat could be declared vacant, affecting about 19 lakh voters.
